How to Match a Tie and Pocket Square for Autumn
Matching a tie and pocket square is less about finding an exact match and more about creating balance. In autumn, richer colours and textured materials make it particularly easy to create combinations that feel considered without becoming too formal.

Start with one dominant colour
Choose the tie first and use one of its secondary colours as inspiration for the pocket square. For example, a patterned tie featuring green, navy and brown can be paired with a pocket square that picks up one of those colours without repeating the entire pattern.
Avoid exact matching
A tie and pocket square made from the same fabric and pattern can make an outfit feel overly coordinated. Instead, vary the colour, pattern or texture.
Mix pattern sizes
If the tie has a strong pattern, choose a more restrained pocket square. Similarly, a solid tie can be paired with a more decorative or patterned pocket square.

Use autumn textures
Wool and textured ties work particularly well during the colder months. Pairing them with a silk pocket square creates a contrast between matte and lustrous surfaces, giving the outfit greater depth.
Keep the overall look balanced
The tie and pocket square should complement the rest of the outfit rather than compete with it. If the jacket or shirt already has a strong pattern, keep at least one of the accessories more understated.
